ITINERARY

Day 01:  Arrival Kigali + Overnight

Morning or early afternoon, arrival into Kigali International Airport.

*Inside airport Meet & Assist Facilitation (Fast Track) by Akagera Aviation customer service, through the arrival process.

On exiting the Arrivals Hall, you are handed over to your Rwanda representative driver-guide.

Introduction and a short briefing, after which you exit the airport and embark on a short orientation tour of Kigali City, including

a visit of the Genocide Memorial. 

Lunch at the Hotel Mille Collines – featured in the film “Hotel Rwanda”, regarding the 1994 Rwanda Genocide Against the Tutsis.

After lunch, depart Kigali and drive to the Volcanoes Mountains region in the north of the country.   94km, 2.5hrs 

Home to the Mountain Gorillas

Day 02: Volcanoes Forest – Gorillas Trek/Ellen DeGeneres Campus/Leisure

Early breakfast, followed by transfer to the park reception – for check-in and gorilla family allocation, followed by briefing on your

gorilla family history, as well as the DO’s & DON’Ts while in the presence of the gorillas.

Then transfer to the trek start-point, from where you commence the ultimate once-in-a-lifetime thrilling adventure – Gorillas Trek, in the volcanoes forest.

Upon sighting your gorilla family, you stay in their presence for a MAGICAL ONE HOUR, as they go about their daily life routine.

At the end of the one-hour audience, drive back to your lodge – for freshening up and lunch.

Rest of the afternoon and evening, at leisure as you re-live the fresh memories of your close encounter with Gorillas-in-the-wild.

You also get to visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, with wall-to wall 3D Theater on Gorillas conservation.

Day 03:  Volcanoes Forest – Golden Monkeys Trek/Cultural Experience/Kigali/Depart

Another early morning in the volcanoes forest – this time for the Golden Monkeys Trek – trekking the only other member of the primate species, residing in the forest.

After the one hour amongst the Golden Monkeys, descend and proceed for a visit of the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village (Gorillas Guardians) – for insights into the transformed lifestyle of families of former gorillas poachers.

From this visit, drive back to the lodge – for freshening up and lunch, followed by check-out.

Shortly after, bid farewell to the volcanoes mountains region and drive back to Kigali – with onward transfer to the Kigali airport, for your evening

outbound flight.

Important Tips – In preparation for your trek activity

Volcanoes Mountains is a high altitude area of over 2,400 meters above sea level.

It is extremely chilly in the early mornings and evenings – warm clothing is therefore necessary.

While trekking, it can rain unexpectedly – it is necessary therefore to have:

Small hand/face towel, to wipe sweat off your face during the trek.

Water-proof clothing (jacket, with hood + trousers);

Waterproof Zip-Lock bags for Cameras/Film/Passports/Money, e.t.c.;

Hand Gloves (warm and water-proof), to keep hands warm and dry, as well as protect from stinging nettles;

Hiking boots – with good mud-grip are most appropriate, especially in wet weather;

Gaiters – to protect your trek trouser legs and boots against mud/wetness;
